Baseball Falls to Fredonia 6-4, 12-8
FREDONIA, NY — The baseball team played a makeup SUNYAC doubleheader against Fredonia this afternoon. The Hawks fell 6-4 in the first game and lost 12-8 in the second game. New Paltz drops to 14-14 on the season and 3-5 in conference play.
New Paltz led 4-1 after four innings in the first game before consecutive singles in the bottom of the fifth by Fredonia cut the deficit to 4-2. The Devils added a run in the sixth to make it 4-3 and plated two runs in the seventh to take the lead for good. Fredonia added the final run in the eighth on a wild pitch. Jon Shanks took the loss on the mound for New Paltz and the Hawks were led offensively by Tyler Terlecky who had three hits, and Zach Potter had two hits and two RBI.
Game two saw New Paltz jump out to a 5-1 lead through two innings. New Paltz tacked on two more runs in the third inning for a 7-1 lead. Kevin Paino had three hits in the first three innings for the Hawks. Fredonia got the bats going in the fourth inning and scored six runs to take the game at seven all. The Devils plated four more runs in the fifth inning and tallied the final run in the sixth. Jeff Stith took the loss for New Paltz.
The team will return to action at Wednesday April 16th when they travel to Vassar for a doubleheader at 2pm.
