Baseball Falls to #9 RPI
TROY, NY — The baseball team traveled to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) this afternoon and were defeated by the ninth-ranked Red Hawks, 15-1. RPI improves to 19-1 overall, while the Hawks fall to 14-10.
RPI scored four runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. The Red Hawks added two runs in the fourth, five in the fifth and two in the sixth, to open up a 13-0 lead. New Paltz scored its lone run in the top of the seventh. Junior Tyler Terlecky (Binghamton, NY) hit a triple with one away. Senior Alex Cadmus (Wappingers Falls, NY) then delivered a single to score Terlecky. Cadmus ended up 1 for 3 with an RBI, while Terlecky went 1 for 4 with a run. Senior right-hander Michael Virgo (Farmingville, NY) made his first start of the season for New Paltz. He allowed 10 runs (7 earned) on six hits over 4.1 innings. He struck out two and walked seven.
New Paltz returns to action this weekend when they travel to Fredonia on Saturday and Brockport on Sunday. Both games are scheduled to start at 12pm.
