Baseball Edges Out Vassar 7-6 in the Ninth

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — New Paltz traveled across the river to to take on Vassar this afternoon and came through in the ninth inning to win 7-6. New Paltz plated the winning run in the top of the ninth inning, breaking a 6-6 tie. Tyler Terlacky scored the decisive run, reaching base on an error, advancing to third on an Alex Cadmus base hit, and coming home on a sacrifice fly by Zachary Potter.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Vassar loaded the bases twice but failed to bring in any runners as the New Paltz defense held strong for the victory. The Brewers took advantage of six walks in the first two innings, scoring three runs on just one hit. Vassar held its lead until the sixth inning when New Paltz scored three runs to take a 5-4 lead. Vassar responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs. However, the Hawks tied the game up in the top of the next inning, as Cadmus scored on a botched run-down play at the plate. Tristian Greene picked up the win, his first of the season, for the Hawks. Eric Holzapple earned the save, pitching the final two outs of the game. Six different pitchers took the mound for the Brewers. Offensively, Jesse Marsh went 3-for-5 with an RBI, Cadmus added two hits and three runs scored, and Michael Marash added two hits and two runs scored.
New Paltz returns to action on Saturday when they host Oswego in a SUNYAC doubleheader at 12pm.
