Men’s Volleyball Falls to #5 Springfield

The men’s volleyball team traveled to #5 Springfield tonight and fell 3-0 (30-24, 30-22, 30-17). Springfield outhit New Paltz .404 to .152. Junior Ryan Huberty led the Hawks with 10 kills and sophomore Alex Jackson added nine kills. Mike Fink contributed seven kills and Stephen Pendleton handed out 19 assists. Senior Pedro Medina registered nine digs. Springfield was led by Ryan Fredrickson who notched a game-high 17 kills while hitting .500 to go along with six blocks and five digs.
After a Huberty kill cut the Pride’s lead to two at 13-11, Springfield opened up a 9-3 run to take control of game one. The Hawks battled back to cut the lead to three after a Pride attack error, making the score 25-22. A pair of kills for Springfield gave the Pride all the momentum it would need as it held on for a 30-24 victory. The second game was back and forth as Springfield held just a one-point advantage, 17-16, after an SC attack error. Fueled by a pair of aces, Springfield closed out the game on a 13-6 run en route to a 30-22 victory. The Pride cruised to a 30-17 game three victory as it took advantage of New Paltz’s .028 hitting percentage.
New Paltz returns to the court on Friday March 14th when they travel to Poly Tech for a 7pm match.
