2007-08 Season Recap
NEW PALTZ, NY — In 2007-08, the women’s basketball team finished the season with a 19-8 record. The Hawks finished the conference season with a record of 12-4, defeated Potsdam in the first round of the SUNYAC tournament and fell to top-seeded Brockport in the semifinals. The team set school record marks for wins in a season and total number of conference wins, including their first win over Cortland since 1994. First year Artie Williams earned second team All-SUNYAC and Rookie of the Year honors after leading the Hawks in points with 12.8 per game, rebounds (8.2) and shooting a team best 51.2% from the field. Sophomore Nicole Sarcone garnered second team All-SUNYAC after scoring 6.0 points per game, handing out 145 assists and a team best 64 steals. She finished the season ranked 23rd in Division III for assists, averaging 5.4 per game. Sophomore Kristen Caban added 10.3 points per game, shot team best .428 (62-145) from the arc and led the team with a 81.4 free throw percent. Senior Amber Sohns added 9.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and completes her four seasons eighth on the career scoring list with 822 points. Senior Sarah Salvo contributed 5.8 points and 3.1 boards in her final season.
