Men’s Basketball Falls to Fredonia 61-50

NEW PALTZ, NY — The men’s basketball hosted Fredonia tonight and dropped a 60-51 decision to the Blue Devils. In the first stanza the Hawks held a 24-21 advantage at 3:36 before Fredonia nailed three three pointers to close out the half. In the second half, New Paltz trailed 40-27 before senior Victor Alvarez netted all of his nine points in three minutes to get the spark going. The Hawks pulled to within three at 44-41 with ten minutes remaining but that is as close as they would come. Fredonia scored the next eight points to open the game and never look back.
New Paltz shot 47.6% from the floor and out rebounded the Blue Devils 34-27. Kyle Nelson posted a double-double to lead the Hawks and scored 11 of his 15 points in the first half, while grabbing a game high 13 rebounds. Sophomore Lee Bertram hit 6-10 from the floor on his way to 14 points and junior Matt Hauser finished with 10 points.
New Paltz falls to 5-7 on the season and 1-4 in conference play and will host Buffalo State tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
