New Paltz Adding Women’s Lacrosse Program
NEW PALTZ — The SUNY New Paltz Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that women’s lacrosse will become the 15th sport offered by the institution.
"We are excited to be adding women’s lacrosse back into our mix of intercollegiate programs" said Director of Athletics Stuart Robinson. "The sport is continuing to grow across the nation and we look forward to providing our student-athletes a strong, competitive environment within the Northeast and the SUNYAC Conference.”
At the end of the 2003 school year, the women’s lacrosse program was retrenched due to facility and financial restraints.
Building a program from the ground up is no easy task, but the Athletic Department has gotten off to a solid start and is optimistic for the future. Robinson states, “With the new turf venue, it makes sense to bring back women’s lacrosse. We can conduct the sport in a proper manner and give the student-athletes a first class experience.”
New Paltz is in the process of hiring a coach and hopes to have someone on board by the end of December. New Paltz will be the tenth member institution in the SUNYAC Conference to sponsor women’s lacrosse: Brockport, Buffalo State, Cortland, Fredonia, Geneseo, Oneonta, Oswego, Potsdam and provisional member Morrisville.
