Men’s Hoops Defeats Bard 93-72
The men’s basketball team defeated Bard 93-72 in the consolation game of the Mid-Hudson Valley Tournament. Kyle Nelson led the Hawks with a career high 31 points and 21 boards on his way to earning all-tournament honors. Nelson was 12-18 from the field and 7-10 from the charity stripe. Sophomore Lee Bertram chipped in with a career high 21 points and 12 boards on 9-15 from the floor. Three other Hawks finished in double figures as senior Jimmy Sugure totaled 11 points and handed out five assists. Victor Alvarez and Adesoji James each chipped in with 10.
New Paltz led 43-32 at the half, shooting 60% from the field. The Hawks led 35-28 with 4:18 left before Bard closed the lead to three with under three minutes in the first stanza. New Paltz used a 9-0 run to finish the half and never looked back.
The Hawks return to action on Friday when they travel to Brockport for their SUNYAC opener at 8 p.m.
