Men’s Basketball Drops SUNYAC Opener to Brockport
BROCKPORT, NY — The men’s basketball team fell to Brockport tonight in their SUNYAC opener, 74-59. The Hawks trailed 17-5 at 9:51 before going on a 12-2 run to cut the deficit to two at 19-17 with over five minutes remaining. The Golden Eagles held a 33-26 advantage at the half.
In the second stanza, the Hawks trailed by as many as 17 with 13:20 remaining but cut the deficit to five after a 14-2 run with just under seven minutes left. But it wasn’t enough as the Golden Eagles outscored New Paltz 17-7 for the final score.
Kyle Nelson scored a team high 17 points to lead the Hawks and hauled down seven rebounds. Senior Brian Kuar scored a career high 12 points on 5-6 from the field and grabbed seven boards. Victor Alvarez finished with 10 points, four assists and sophomore Lee Bertram chipped in with eight points and 10 boards. Junior Matt Hauser handed out a game high eight assists.
New Paltz returns to action next week in their home opener when they host Geneseo on Friday December 7th at 8:00 pm.
