NYU Clips Women’s Basketball 87-82

NEW YORK, NY — The women’s basketball team traveled to #4 NYU tonight and fell to the Violets 87-82. The Hawks (2-3) jumped out to an early 8-0 lead before NYU battled back to tie the game at 15 all. The Violets then used an 8-0 run and advantage of New Paltz fouls to take control of the game and never trail the rest of way before ending the first stanza 45-29. The Violets made 18-20 from the charity stripe in the first half with the Hawks only visited the line three times.
In the second half, New Paltz came out fighting and chipped away at the 16 point lead to come to within eight after a 12-5 run. New Paltz came to within seven at 75-68 on a free throw by Amber Sohns. With over two minutes remaining in regulation Sarah Salvo hit a three pointer to cut the deficit to four, but the Hawks would come no closer. Despite a hard fought effort, the Violets couldn’t miss from the free throw line which would be the deciding factor in the game. NYU made 41-52 from the line, while the Hawks made 18-23. Jessica McEntee accounted for 20 of the Violets free throw attempts on her way to a game high 38 points.
Senior Amber Sohns led the Hawks with 21 points and first year Artie Williams finished with a career high 19 points, all in the second half, and nine boards. Sophomore Nicole Sarcone chipped in with a career high 14 points and six assists. Carly Minehan finished with 11 points and six boards and Maggie Farrell hauled down nine rebounds.
New Paltz returns to action on Tuesday December 4th when they travel to Norwich at 7:00 pm.
