Men’s Basketball Claims First Win of Season

The men’s basketball team traveled to Old Westbury tonight and claimed their first win of the season with a 53-43 victory over the Panthers. Junior Matt Hauser scored a career high 22 points to lead the Hawks. Hauser was 5-9 from the field, with all five coming from behind the arc, in addition to hitting 7-8 free throw attempts. Sophomore Lee Bertram finished with a career high 17 points and grabbed a team high nine boards. Brian Kuar chipped in with four points and six boards against his former team, while Kyle Nelson hauled down nine rebounds.
New Paltz held the Panthers to 14 points in the first half for the 23-14 advantage. The game was tied twice with the last time at 9-9 at 14:12 of the first stanza. Old Westbury cut the lead to seven with :17 seconds left but it wasn’t enough as New Paltz claimed the win.
The Hawks (1-2) return to action on Tuesday November 27th when they play Vassar at Bard at 6:00pm as part of the Mid-Hudson Classic Tournament.
