Nicomini Leads Field Hockey to 3-1 Victory

The field hockey team traveled to Oswego State today and defeated the Lakers 3-1 in a SUNYAC contest. New Paltz advances to 4-7 overall and 3-2 in SUNYAC games while Oswego State falls to 1-11 and 1-5 in the conference.
First year Lauren Nicomini scored a pair of goals and assisted on a third as the Hawks built a 3-0 lead in the first half. Nicomini’s first goal was shot from close range after a centering pass from Caitlin Ryder in the 16th minute. After some perimeter passing following a penalty corner, Ryder and Nicomini combined again at the left post for the goal to take a 2-0 lead.
Another corner was awarded in the 22nd minute, and Nicomini shot from 10 yards, and the ball was touched into the net by Kristen Donnelly.
Oswego State’s goal came in the 67th minute when Brittany Roetzer fed Lauren Mastriano for a goal. New Paltz goalkeeper Jessica Malone made five saves in the half and six for the game. The Hawks return to action on Wednesday when they host Manhattanville at 4:00 pm.
