Men’s Soccer Ties Potsdam 1-1

The men’s soccer team hosted Potsdam this afternoon in a SUNYAC match-up which resulted in a 1-1 double overtime tie. Each team posted 13 shots on goal while Potsdam held a slim 9-7 corner kick advantage.
Sophomore Harper Jaroff put the Hawks on the board first at 29:09. Jaroff picked up a loose ball from the Potsdam defense and fired a low shot into the right corner past Craig Waasdorp, to register his first goal of the season. At 31:33 New Paltz was back in Potsdam territory when Allan Bronstein fired a shot off a direct kick and nailed the ball off the crossbar.
Five minutes into the second stanza Potsdam evened the game at 1-1. New Paltz keeper Mike Judge knocked down a header from Jeremy Boula off a corner kick but Tim Ciampa picked up the rebound and knocked the loose ball into the net. In the 78th minute Potsdam Cager Mackaravitz fired a shot missing the cross bar by inches. In the 83rd minute Robert Mendes blasted a shot on target which Waasdorp tipped over the net. New Paltz had one last chance in regulation when Joe Rose was on a breakaway at 88:50 but was denied by Waasdorp.
The Hawks outshot the Bears 5-2 in the overtime period but neither team could convert an opportunity. Judge and Peter Carmel split time in net for the Hawks and each posted five saves. Waasdorp finished with 11.
New Paltz returns to action next weekend when they travel to SUNYAC on Friday at 3:00 and Morrisville on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
