Men’s Soccer Shut Out by RPI

SCHENECTADY, NY — The men’s soccer team faced Rensselaer this afternoon and dropped a 3-0 decision to the Red Hawks. Rensselaer freshman Jeff Hebert (Derry, NH) scored in the 29th minute to lead the Red Haws to a 3-0 victory over New Paltz at the Union Classic Saturday afternoon. RPI improves to 2-1-1 on the season, while New Paltz drops to 0-4-0
The two teams played and up-and-down first half, with the first shot of the game coming more than 15 minutes into the contest. RPI sent a bullet from 14 yards out that New Paltz goaltender Peter Carmel deflected high over the goal. In the 29th minute the Red Hawks capitailized off a header for the 1-0 lead.
New Paltz forward Lucas Natel (Mineola, NY) came close to putting the Hawks on the board in the 56th minute with a direct kick from 20 yards out, but his shot was scooped up by RPI netminder.
RPI’s offense intensified in the second half, as the Red Hawks notched a pair of goals on seven shots.
The Red Hawks held an 11-5 lead in shots on net, and a 21-6 advantage in overall shots. Carmel made nine saves in the loss. New Paltz hosts Skidmore in a 4 pm game on September 11.
