Search For Head Men’s Basketball Coach
NEW PALTZ, NY — Head Men’s Basketball Coach Doug Pasquerella will be stepping down from his position in August 2007. A search has begun and all inquires/questions should be directed to Athletic Director, Stuart Robinson at 845-257-3908.
SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball coach Doug Pasquerella has stepped down after five seasons.
Pasquerella is returning to teach and coach at Homer High School, assuming the same job he had before taking over the New Paltz program in 2002-03.
Last season the Hawks were 11-14 overall and 4-12 in SUNY Athletic Conference play. Graduate John Hauser was named an academic All-American, and Hauser and Amseshem Foluke-Henderson each garnered SUNYAC all-star status.
In his first season, SUNY New Paltz fell one victory shy of earning an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. The Hawks eliminated top-seeded and regular season league champion Potsdam in the quarterfinals and two-time defending league champion Brockport in the semifinals to advance to the championship game of the SUNYAC Tournament for the first time since 1996. SUNY New Paltz eventually fell to Buffalo State in the title game but finished the year with an 11-17 record after going 3-22 the previous season.
Pasquerella earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from SUNY Cortland. He completed his master’s degree in health education in 2000. In addition, he is pursuing a certificate of advanced study degree in educational administration at SUNY New Paltz.
In addition to his coaching duties, Pasquerella was the Coordinator of Intramurals/Recreation and Outdoor Pursuits.
Pasqueralla lives with his wife Christina in New Paltz.
