Hawks Swept by Red Dragons
CORTLAND, NY — The SUNY New Paltz softball team traveled to Cortland this afternoon and were swept by the Red Dragons, 5-1 and 10-0 .
In game one, the Hawks trailed 3-0 heading into the fourth before scoring their only run. Christina Charvat walked was hit home on an RBI double to center field by Lauren Motzkin. The Red Dragons tallied their final two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Motzkin led the offense with two hits and recording single hits for the Hawks were Melyssa Cilmi and Gina Marano. Junior Kelly O’Hea took the loss on the mound, allowing seving hits and five runs in six innings.
In the second game, New Paltz was shutout 10-0 in five innings. First year Dale Cornelius went two for two from the plate to lead the Hawks. Motzkin, Cilmi, and Marano each tallied a hit for New Paltz. Junior Michelle Reinke took the loss on the mound, allowing eight runs on five hits in the first inning before being relieved by O’Hea. O’Hea allowed two runs on three hits while striking out two batters in four and one-third innings.
The Hawks will return to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Oswego.
