Coombs Primed for Run at 100-yard Backstroke

HOUSTON, TX — Setting a new varsity and conference record senior Michelle Coombs (Newburgh, NY) swam a 56.33 in the 100-yard backstroke to secure a second place seed. Coomb’s preliminary finish qualifies her for finals competition in tonight’s 100-yard event at the 2007 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. Coombs is seeded behind the defending champion, Brittany Sasser of Amherst, who swam a 55.16 in the prelims.
The 200 medley relay team of Coombs, Laura Lipp, Erica Ellis and Ashley Williamson touched 13th in the preliminary round in a time of 1:49.44. Ellis and Williamson swam personal bests in the butterfly (26.36) and freestyle (24.08) legs, respectively.
