HOUSTON, TX — Senior Michelle Coombs touched second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.59, setting a new conference and varsity record, breaking Claudine Gruver’s record of 57.44. Coombs finished behind the defending champion, Brittany Sasser of Amherst, who finished with a time of 54.72.
The 200 medley relay of Coombs, Laura Lipp, Erica Ellis and Ashley Williamson finished 14th with a time of 1:49.58. SUNY New Paltz currently stands 14th in the team standings.
The final day of competition will take place on Saturday, with Coombs swimming in the 100 free where she is seeded third headed into prelims and the 400 free relay is seeded 17th before prelims.
