Women’s Basketball Falls to Oneonta
NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team hosted the Oneonta Red Dragons this afternoon in a SUNYAC match-up and dropped a 79-69 decision. The Hawks led 12-6 at 13:50 in the first before Oneonta went on a 9-0 run for a 15-12 lead. The game was tied at 21 with 7:52 remaining, followed by a 14-6 by Oneonta to close out the half at 35-27. Oneonta opened the second half with a 15-4 run to extend their lead to 19 with 12:22 remaining. The Hawks closed the gap to eight at 77-69 but it was too late with only 20 seconds remaining in regulation.
Despite outrebounding Oneonta 39-26 and makinig 31 of 36 free throw attempts, New Paltz could not over come Oneonta’s 54.9% shooting from the field.
Senior Kerri Kelty led the Hawks with 15 points, including hitting nine of ten from from the charity stripe. Junior Amber Sohns chipped in with 14 points. Carly Minehan finished with eight points and seven boards.
The Hawks fall to 13-7 on the season and 7-4 in conference play. SUNY New Paltz will return action on Friday Feb. 9th when they travel to Oswego to take on the Lakers.
