Women’s Volleyball Advances to ECAC Semifinals

ROCHESTER, NY — The third seeded SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team traveled to Rochester for ECAC tournament and faced sixth seed Russell Sage Friday night at the University of Rochester. The Hawks swept the Gators 30-24, 30-18, 30-26.
In game one the score was tied seven times with the last one coming at 17-17 before the Hawks took the lead for good. The largest lead was after a four point run by New Paltz at 29-22. Game two saw the Hawks command play after a four point run behind the serving of senior Jenn Hembury to take the lead at 12-7 as New Paltz never looked back. Their largest lead came at 28-14 before closing out the game. In the final game New Paltz took the lead for good at 9-8. The Hawks were up by seven points six time throughout the game before the Gators battled back to within two at 28-26 but it wasn’t enough as New Paltz swept the match.
Clouston led the way for the Hawks with 15 kills and 14 digs, while sophomore Amanda Brown finished with 11 kills, 11 digs. Nicole Mercandante collected a team high 17 digs and junior Katie Becofsky dished out 33 assists.
SUNY New Paltz will face second seeded RIT Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
