Women’s Basketball Opens With a Win

YORK, PA — The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team traveled to York College at Pennsylvania Friday night for the Coaches v Cancer Tip Off Tournament. The Hawks defeated the Spartans 62-54 to open the 2006-07 campaign and give first year head coach Jamie Seward his first win.
The Hawks led 33-21 at the half after an shooting an impressive 52 percent from the field compared to York’s 14.8 percent. The Spartans managed to come out strong in the second half and tie up the game at 33-33 with 17:24 remaining. The Hawks then went on a 13-4 run to open up the game.
Senior Jenny Driscoll led the offense with 17 points shooting 6-7 from the field including 3-3 from the arc. First year Chelsea Clarke added 10 points, five boards, classmate Kristin Sitek contributed seven points and junior Amber Sohns came off the bench to score seven points. Maggie Farrell grabbed a team high seven rebounds.
The Hawks will play in the championship game Saturday at 3:00 pm vs the winner of McDaniel/Juniata.
