Hawks Swim Past Brewers

NEW PALTZ, NY — SUNY New Paltz hosted the Vassar Brewers in a dual swim meet Saturday afternoon. Senior Liz Delia led the way in a 115-78 victory for the women claiming three individual events. Stefan Crain claimed two first place finishes on the men’s side as the Hawks won 131-55.
Delia claimed the 1650 free (18:54.42), 400 IM (4:48.85) and the 500 free (5:29.16). Michelle Coombs won the 200 free and the 200 backstroke in 1:57.64 and 2:09.03, respectively. Ashley Williamson finished first the 50 free (25.63) and Liz Ruggerio touched first in the 200 butterfly (2:18.63).
On the men’s side, Crain swam to a first place finish in the 1000 free (10:43.22) and the 500 free (5:09.39). Johnny Fleckenstein won the 200 free in 1:54.04 as junior Brendan Lown claimed the 50 free in 23.25. First year Zack Lowenstein touched first in the 200 IM (2:05.82) and Mark Chipman won the 200 butterfly in 2:19.28. First year Joe Fails claimed the 100 free in 52.61, just edging out Lown (52.62). Stephen Cozzolongo won the 100 backstroke (2:04.13) and teamed up with Chipman, Danny Lo, and Fails to win the 400 yard medley relay (3:50.73).
The Hawks will return to action when they compete in the ECAC Championships, December 1-3.
