NEW PALTZ — The Talent Search Program at the State University of New York at New Paltz received renewed funding from the U.S. Department of Education for a four-year cycle, which will run from September 2007 to August 2011.
The New Paltz program is funded at $363,000 for the first year. Ken Gillman, director of the Special Programs Office, anticipates the program will receive approximately $1.5 million dollars over the course of the multi-year funding cycle.
“We are quite pleased to be able to continue providing essential support services to students who meet federal program guidelines,” said Gillman.
The program has provided academic, career and financial counseling services to approximately 1,300 junior and senior high school students in 12 school districts in Dutchess, Orange, Sullivan and Ulster counties each year since 1973.
The Special Programs Office at New Paltz administers two federally funded programs on campus, the Talent Search Program and the post-secondary Student Support Program.
