Cross Country Competes at SUNYACs

BUFFALO, NY — The men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships. The women finished eighth out of nine teams (the final team did not finish) in the 6K race with a team total of 206 points. Senior Kelly Dunphy lead the way for the Hawks with a time of 26:49. Junior Christine Carlstrom and sophomore Stephanie Albinski ran a tight race and crossed the line in 27:07 and 27:09, respectively. Jessica Waterbury and Lisa Cassaro rounded out the scoring five in 28:22 and 28:44. The top seven finished with Tara McGorry with a time of 28:49 and Winter Eyres in 29:35. The Geneseo women’s team claimed the team title with 31 points. Toni Wiszowaty of Plattsburgh won the individual title in 22:29.
The New Paltz men’s team finished with a team total of 293 points for a 10th place finish out of eleven teams in the 8K race. Despite the 10th place finish, each member of the men’s team ran a personal best, knocking off anywhere from one to three minutes from their previous best. First year Robert Grazier led the Hawks with a time of 26:39. Classmate Nicholas Avello finished in 27:16. Senior Harry Sudwischer and Alex Colucci finished six second apart in times of 28:20 and 28:26, respectively. Kurtis Nordahl finished off the scoring five with a time of 28:58. Rounding out the top seven for the Hawks were Timothy Ivancic and Sean Brown who crossed in 29:05 and 29:33, respectively. The Cortland men claimed the team title with a total of 29 points to break Geneseo’s streak of six consecutive years. Matt DeShane of Plattsburgh won the individual title in a time of 23:25.
