Women’s Volleyball Wins Hawk Invite

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team hosted day two of the Hawk Invite today and claimed the title with wins over Oneonta and Elmira to go along with the wins from yesterday against Farmingdale and Morrisville.

The SUNY New Paltz Hawks defeated SUNY Oneonta 3-1 in match one of the day. The Hawks dropped the first match 32-30, before claiming the next three 30-19, 30-27, 30-24. The Hawks were led by Kate Roche (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) who posted 14 kills on 30 attempts. Kim Clouston (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) and Franchesca Rodriguez (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland) chipped in with 12 kills each, with Rodriguez adding four service aces. First year Brittany Coyle (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) knocked down 10 kills for New Paltz and Stephanie Bova (Central Square) dished out 31 assists.

Leading the way for the Oneonta Red Dragons were Caitlin Ross and Caity Welch who posted 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Jessica Ptasnick added 17 assists and Meagen Eddinger collected 41 digs.

Match two of the day saw the Hawks face off against the Soaring Eagles from Elmira. New Paltz won 30-17, 30-18, 30-18 to claim the win and finish 4-0 in the Invite for the weekend to finish as the number team. Leading the way for the Hawks was Clouston with ten kills on 23 attempts. Kim Braga (Long Beach) chipped in with six kills and Bova handed out 28 assists.

Elmira was led by Katie Schildwaster with seven kills. Jackie Clark tallied six kills and Amanda Weaver recorded 26 assists.

New Paltz will be back in action next weekend for round one of the SUNYAC Pool Play hosted by Plattsburgh.
