New Paltz Women’s Soccer Wins Third Straight
NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team won their third consecutive game this afternoon with a 1-0 win over the Manhattanville Valiants. The Hawks advance to 4-5-1 on the season as the Valiants drop to 5-3-1.
SUNYAC and ECAC Player of the Week, Kerri Kelty (Valley Stream, NY) tallied the loan goal for the Hawks 11 minutes into the game. Kelty headed in a shot past Valiant goalkeeper Michele Ribeiro (West Hartford, CT) off a corner kick by Jennifer Moretti (Sayville, NY).
Two minutes later Manhattanville had a chance for the equalizer as Cybil Robinson (South Lake Tahoe, CA) was one on one with New Paltz keeper Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville, NY). Boccard came out of net to cut down the angle and it paid off with a tremendous save for the Hawks.
Three minutes into the second half Manhattanville had another golden opportunity as Sarah Kinsley (Pearl River, NY) blasted a low shot which was deflected by Boccard. Robinson took the rebound shot which soared high.
In the 63rd minute Stephanie Potts (Cortlandt Manor, NY) flicked a shot to the upper right but Ribeiro came up big for the Valiants. Potts was back at it three minutes later only to be stopped by Ribeiro again. In the 74th minute of play, Jacqueline Sellitto (Hauppauge, NY) ripped a shot that looked as if it was soaring over Ribeiro’s head but she came up with a high reach to save the ball.
With eight minutes left in regulation, Ribeiro still kept the Valiants in it with a save on Jamie McBain’s (Troy, NY) attempt from the left side. One minute later Lauren Martel (West Sayville, NY) was on her way to being one on one with the keeper when she was called for a hand ball. Kelty fired a shot wide left with five minutes left as the last hope of extending the 1-0 lead.
New Paltz outshot Manhattanville 26-15 as Boccard posted 10 saves for her second shutout of the season. Ribeiro made 16 saves in the losing effort.
