New Paltz Drops 3-0 Decision to Buffalo State

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team hosted the Buffalo State Bengals at Alumni Field on Friday September 29, 2006. The Hawks fell 3-0, in the SUNYAC competition.

In the 41st minute Matt Ketchum (Churchville, NY) took a free kick and blasted a shot that was deflected off the left post. Prisco Houndanon (Togo, West Africa) found the rebound and fired the ball into the right side of the net for the 1-0 lead. New Paltz out shot Buffalo State 11-6 in the first half but couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities.

In the second half, Houndandon took a through ball from Stephen Galante (Buffalo, NY) in the 62nd minute and knocked home a shot into the upper left corner past New Paltz goalkeeper Masanori Hotta (Kawanish Japan).

With ten minutes remaining in regulation Zack Eastman tallied an unassisted goal as there was a shuffle in front of the New Paltz net.

Hotta finished with five saves as the Hawks fall to 2-7-1 overall and 0-4-1 in SUNYAC play. Shawn McDonell (West Seneca, NY) registered 10 saves as the Bengals advance to 5-5 on the season and 2-1 in the conference. The Hawks will host the Fredonia Blue Devils Saturday at 1 p.m.
