Hawks Fall to Blue Devils 1-0

NEW PALTZ, NY — The Fredonia men’s soccer team improved to 4-0 in SUNYAC conference play and 7-4-1 overall with a 1-0 victory over SUNY New Paltz this afternoon at Alumni Field.

The Blue Devils scored early, just 1:28 into the game on a shot by freshman Steve Tamtakiridis (Toronto, NY) on a nifty pass from teammate Matt Mahaffey (Lakeview, NY).

New Paltz had a chance to tie the game on a penalty kick at 41:13, but the shot from sophomore Robert Mendes (Mineola, NY) just missed the upper right corner and deflected off the cross bar. The Hawks couldn’t capitalize in the second half as junior keeper Scott Bergen (Schenectady, NY) stopped 14 shots to preserve the win for Fredonia.

Senior keeper Jeffrey Dudley (Poughkeepsie, NY) made 9 saves for New Paltz, as the Hawks fall to 2-8-1 overall and 0-5-1 in the conference. The Hawks return to action Friday, October 6th for a conference game at Potsdam.
