New Paltz and Rensselaer Play to a 0-0 Double Overtime Draw

SCHENECTADY, NY — SUNY New Paltz played to a scoreless double-overtime draw against Rensselaer in non-conference action at College Park Field on the campus of Union College Sunday afternoon. New Paltz stands at 1-0-1 on the short season while Rensselear posts a 0-1-1 record.

New Paltz held a 16-10 shot advantage, including a 9-3 onslaught in the second half, but Rensselaer senior goaltender Tara Marandino (Massapequa) made eight saves on the day to keep the Hawks at bay.

First year Salley Kafko (Brooklyn/Midwood) had the closest scoring chance of the first half when she sent a shot wide across the net from the right side past Rensselaer’s Marandino, who had come out of the net to play a previously wide shot.

Marandino came up big in the 80h minute, hauling down a shot by New Paltz sophomore Kate Addis (Amherst) which came after a direct kick.

Rensselear put three shots on net in the first overtime, including two in the 99th minute as freshmen Jacquelyn Garlasco (Paramus, NJ/ Immaculate Heart Academy) and Amanda Nicklin (Ridgefield, CT/ Ridgefield) sent in shots from 18 yards out, only to be thwarted by New Paltz sophomore goaltender Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville). Boccard finished the day with four saves.

New Paltz will travel to Ramapo on Wednesday, September 6th to take on the Roadrunners at 4:30 p.m.
