Hawks Drop Season Opener to Hartwick
ONEONTA, NY — The SUNY New Paltz field hockey team dropped their season opener, 5-2, to Hartwick this afternoon at Wright Stadium.
Sophomore Megan Flynn (Massapequa) put New Paltz on the board first at 13:28 of the first half scoring on a pass from Ashley Smith (Newfield/Selden). Hartwick retaliated to score the next five goals of the game to take a commanding lead. Molly Joyce(North Warren/ Brant Lake, N.Y.) scored one goal and added an assist in the win. Sophomore transfer Annie Yager(Greene/ Greene N.Y.) added two goals and Jenev Schilling (Martha’s Vineyard Regional/ Vineyard Haven, Mass.) posted one goal and two assists.
Senior Justine Fairclough (North Shore/Glen Cove) tallied an unassisted goal late in the game to end the scoring at 5-2. New Paltz senior goalkeeper Nicole Kovac (Fayetteville-Manlius/Manlius) took the loss in net, posting 16 saves.
The Hawks will play their home opener this Wednesday, September 6 at Dietz Stadium in Kingston, NY against Drew University at 7:00 p.m.
