Women’s Tennis Tops Stevens Tech. For 10th Win
NEW PALTZ, NY — The Hawks reached the ten-win mark with an 8-1 victory over Stevens Tech., this evening. SUNY New Paltz swept doubles competition and won all but one singles match to defeat the Ducks.
In doubles play, freshman Dana Lim (New City, NY) and sophomore Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY) picked up an 8-4 win over sophomore Dana Bacalla (Portland, OR) and junior Jin Bai (Edison, NJ). At number two doubles, sophomore Jennifer Larson (Port Jervis, NY) and senior Sara Goldstein (Merrick, NY) defeated freshman Whitney Bender (Tijeras, NM) and freshman Rebecca Ryba (Old Brookville, NY), 9-7. Sisters, Ashley and Lindsay Trifiletti (Mamaroneck, NY) blanked sophomore Jacqueline Carbone (Basking Ridge, NJ) and freshman Wei Liu (Hasbrouck, NJ), 8-0, at number three doubles.
Yamakawa, Larson, Goldstein, Lindsay Trifiletti, and freshman Katherine Ketigian (Garden City, NY) all earned wins in singles play, as SUNY New Paltz (10-2) defeated Stevens Tech. (7-9) in five out of six matches. Bacalla won the lone match for the Ducks, taking number one singles 6-4, 6-0 to remain undefeated this season. Yamakawa defeated Bender, at number two singles, 6-2, 6-2. Larson earned her first win in number three singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Bai. Ketigian topped Ryba, 6-3, 6-1, as Goldstein beat Carbone, 6-1, 6-0, in number four and five singles, respectively. Lindsay Trifiletti won number six singles 6-0, 6-0 over Liu.
The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team will compete next in the William Smith Tournament on April 22 and 23.
