Hawks Hold Panthers Scoreless, Extend Winning Streak to Six

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz softball team extended their winning streak to six games as they swept Purchase in both ends of this afternoon’s doubleheader. The Hawks held the Panthers scoreless on the day, winning game one 6-0, and game two, 7-0.

In the opener, sophomore outfielder Lauren Motzkin (Woodstock, NY) laced a RBI single past the shortstop to put the Hawks on the board. Sophomore outfielder Joelle VonBischoffshausen (East Brunswick, NY) later scored on a wild pitch giving SUNY New Paltz (11-13) a two-run lead after the first inning. The Hawks scored three times in the third and once in the fourth to provide sophomore pitcher Michelle Reinke (St. James, NY) with plenty of run support. Reinke picked up her eighth win of 2006. Working four innings, she walked two and struck out six, while allowing only two hits.

Senior third baseman Danielle Porcelli (Huntington Station, NY) went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead SUNY New Paltz. Junior catcher Margaret Blair (Lake Peekskill, NY) collected two hits, and junior outfielder Amy O’Brien (LaGrangeville, NY) recorded one. Freshman shortstop Emily Stanley (Holmes, NY) and freshman catcher Patricia Orellana (New York, NY) tallied the only hits for Purchase (9-8).

Sophomore pitcher Kelly O’Hea (Huntington Station, NY) allowed only three hits in the second contest. In seven innings, she struck out eight to earn her third win of the year. After tripling in the third, Blair scored on a wild pitch to give the Hawks a one-run lead. Blair went 2-for-4 and cleared the bases in the sixth with her second triple of the affair to extend the Hawks’ advantage to 6-0. Sophomore shortstop Amalia Ditrapani (Staten Island, NY) went 2-for-3, doubling in a run in the fourth.

The SUNY New Paltz softball team will host Plattsburgh in a conference doubleheader tomorrow, Friday, April 14, at 3:00 pm.
