Hawks Extend Winning Streak to Eight, McPartlan Breaks 100 Hits

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz softball team extended their winning streak to eight games as they swept Potsdam in both ends of this afternoon’s doubleheader. The Hawks out scored the Bears, 8-6, on the day, winning both game one and game two, 4-3.

In the opener, senior first baseman Liz McPartlan (Huntington Station, NY) laced a single to left field, in the first, to record her 101st career hit. McPartlan later scored on a wild pitch giving SUNY New Paltz (13-13, 3-7) a three-run lead after the first inning. The Hawks scored one more time in the fifth, when freshman outfielder Gina Morano (Shirley, NY) singled to left field, scoring McPartlan. Sophomore pitcher Michelle Reinke (St. James, NY) earned her ninth win of 2006. In seven innings, she walked two and struck out 11, while allowing only five hits and no earned runs.

Liz McPartlan went 2-for-2 at the plate with a triple to lead SUNY New Paltz, offensively. Sophomore shortstop Amalia Ditrapani (Staten Island, NY) and junior outfielder Amy O’Brien (LaGrangeville, NY) each recorded one hit. Sophomore shortstop Jocelyn Cole (Heuvelton, NY) had two hits with two RBI and senior first baseman Meaghan Beck (Stanford, NY) tallied three hits for Potsdam (5-17, 2-10).

Sophomore pitcher Kelly O’Hea (Huntington Station, NY) allowed seven hits in the second contest. In six innings, she struck out four to earn her fourth win of the year. Reinke picked up her first career save. She pitched a perfect seventh inning, striking out two-out-of-three batters. McPartlan went 2-for-3 and cleared the bases, in the third, with her second hit of the affair, tying the game 2-2. Sophomore catcher Lauren Motzkin (Woodstock, NY) went 3-for-4, singling in the game-winning run in the sixth. Junior designated hitter Margaret Blair (Lake Peekskill, NY) went 2-for-4 with a RBI, launching her fifth triple on the year.

The SUNY New Paltz softball team will travel to SUNY IT for a 3:00 pm conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 18.
