Masterson Qualifies 8th, Primed for Run at 100-yard Freestyle

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Setting a new varsity and conference record senior Joanna Masterson (Canandaigua, NY) swam a 52.41 in the 100-yard freestyle to secure an eighth place finish. Masterson’s preliminary finish qualifies her for finals competition in tonight’s 100-yard freestyle event at the 2006 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Swimming and Diving Championships.

The final session of the 2006 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships will begin at 6:30 pm (Central Time) at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. A year ago Masterson swam 27th (53.91) in the 100-yard freestyle preliminaries and failed to qualify for finals competition.

Thursday night, March 9, Masterson swam to a third place finish in the 50-yard freestyle touching in 24.10. She placed 27th (1:57.15) in the 200-yard freestyle Friday afternoon.
