SUNY New Paltz Women’s Basketball Loses to Lakers

OSWEGO, NY — This evening the SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team dropped their tenth conference game for the year by a final of 71-51, to Oswego. The Hawks are now 3-10 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) and 9-13 overall.

SUNY New Paltz (9-13, 3-10) played a strong first half against Oswego, shooting 50 percent from the field. The Hawks entered halftime down only five, 36-31, but a lackluster second half allowed the Lakers to pull away with the 20-point victory. Junior forward Kristin Jackson (East Islip, NY) led the Hawks with 12 points and sophomore center Christine Trupiano (Massapequa, NY) added 10 points, while collecting seven rebounds off the bench.

Sophomore forward Sarah Lombard (Saratoga Springs, NY) led all scorers with 19 points, on eight-of-nine shooting from the floor for Oswego (16-5, 11-2). Junior guard Kelly Mraz (Johnstown, NY) piloted the Oswego offense with 12 points and 7 assists, as junior forward Jessica Tremblay (Colonie, NY) and sophomore guard Alaina Hannahs (Johnstown, NY) tallied eight rebounds apiece.

The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team will continue their SUNYAC weekend schedule tomorrow, Saturday, February 11, against Geneseo at 6:00 pm.
