SUNY New Paltz Qualifies 22 for SUNYAC Commissioner’s List

FREDONIA, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Commissioner’s List and All-Academic Team for the Fall of 2005 has been announced. SUNY New Paltz had 22 student-athletes qualify for the Commissioner’s List, while 47 earned recognition on the SUNYAC All-Academic Team. To qualify for the Commissioner’s List one must be a varsity athlete that had competed for an entire season and has maintained at least a 3.3 grade point average for three semesters. Those who earned All-Academic Honors have participated in varsity athletics for their complete respective sport season, while maintaining at least a 3.3 grade point average of the Fall semester.

Senior Janet Walsh (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) qualified for the Commissioner’s List for her fourth consecutive year. She leads a host of Cross Country team members who have made the Commissioner’s List more than once; junior Marisa Ouranitas (Levittown, NY/W. Tresper Clarke) has qualified the past three years while senior Kate Choromanski (Shelton, CT/Shelton) has qualified the past two years. The Cross Country Team led all SUNY New Paltz athletics with eight members qualifying for the Commissioner’s List and 12 earning All-Academic accolades.

SUNY New Paltz has increased the number of student-athletes who qualified for the Commissioner’s List and earned All-Academic Honors each of the past three Fall sports seasons. Since 2003, the number of Fall student-athletes to earn All-Academic recognition has risen from 35 to 36, in 2004, and jumped to 47 this Fall. Over the past three years SUNY New Paltz has also increased the number of student-athletes to qualify for the Commissioner’s List. 14 student athletes qualified in 2003, 17 in 2004 and 22 in 2005.
