SUNY New Paltz Men’s Volleyball Snaps Three Game Skid
NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team ended their three game losing streak with a 3-0 (30-2, 30-11, 30-10) sweep of Yeshiva. With the win SUNY New Paltz improves to 7-3 in the North East Colleigate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Metro Division and 14-7 overall.
The Hawks jumped out to a 14-1 lead in game one, before Yeshiva (0-13, 0-8) took a timeout. Unfazed, SUNY New Paltz (14-7, 7-3) continued for the 30-2 win. SUNY New Paltz hit .346 and .619 in the final two games to beat the Maccabees in games two, 30-11, and game three, 30-10.
SUNY New Paltz received ten kills and seven digs from freshman opposite Jason Chandler (Spencerport, NY), who finished the afternoon with a .714 hitting percentage. Senior outside hitter Jamie Kellogg (Scio, NY) and freshman outside hitter Mark Blair (Point Pleasant, NY) finished with nine kills and eight kills, respectively. Blair added four aces and three blocks as well. Freshman setter Jarrett Rubin (Lido Beach, NY) totaled 28 assists on the afternoon and joined freshman outside hitter Ryan Huberty (Liverpool, NY) and senior middle blocker Greg Jackson (Central Square, NY) with five aces apiece.
Junior Noam Joel (Riverdale, NY) totaled three kills to lead Yeshiva. Freshman Jeremy Zisholtz (Atlanta, GA) recorded 5 assist and five digs in the loss.
The SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team will travel to Polytechnic on Wednesday, March 1, for a 7:00 pm NECVA Metro Division contest.
