SUNY New Paltz Men’s Basketball Struggles At Oswego

OSWEGO, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team dropped their third consecutive game by a final of 76-52 against conference rival Oswego. The Hawks fell to 5-17 overall and 2-11 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC), with the loss.

Oswego (17-5, 10-3) opened up a 28-point halftime lead, 49-21, shooting 59.4 percent from the floor in the opening period. Although the SUNY New Paltz (5-17, 2-11) kept pace with the Lakers in the second half, the Hawks were unable to overcome the first half deficit. Junior forward John Hauser (East Williston, NY) led all scorers with 22 points, on 8-of-14 shooting from the field. Junior guard Matt Irwin (Brooklyn, NY) pitched in with 13 points for the Hawks. Senior guard Keith Critchlow (Central Islip, NY) led SUNY New Paltz with five rebounds.

Four players finished the affair in double figures for the Lakers. Junior guard Nick Perioli (Liverpool, NY) finished with a team-high 16 points and eight assists, while junior forward Matt Burridge (Oswego, NY) and junior guard Todd Franze (Westfield, NY) totaled 15 points apiece. Burridge collected nine rebounds. Freshman guard Kyle Reuter (Mexico, NY) added ten points off the bench for the Lakers.

The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team will battle SUNYAC rival Geneseo tomorrow, Saturday, February 11, in an 8:00 pm contest.
