School of Business receives $10,000 donation toward development of new leadership lab
NEW PALTZ — The School of Business at the State University of New York at New Paltz has received an anonymous $10,000 donation toward the development of a new Leadership and Team Building Lab. The lab, which will be in the newly renovated van den Berg Hall, will allow students to practice team building and leadership skills in a classroom setting.
Once the lab is fully funded, it will have a camera to videotape students as they are giving presentations, facilitating meetings or groups and working on team projects. The students will then review the tape with the professor in order to improve their performance as an effective leader or team member. This lab will also store leadership literature for students to review.
Hadi Salavitabar, dean of the School of Business, said the lab will allow students to have a more real-world experience, making it easier for them to transition to the professional environment. “We would not be doing the right job if we limited the business school programs to the classroom,” said Salavitabar. “Now we are going to put these students to the test — to apply what they have learned. We are creating a setting that takes our educational environment beyond the traditional classroom.”
