SUNY New Paltz Men’s Volleyball Captures First Win of Season

NEW YORK, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team captured their first win of 2006 with a 3-0 (30-25, 30-19, 30-22) win to non-conference opponent Hunter College.

SUNY New Paltz (1-0) started the first match with a 19-11 run and would go on to win the first game 30-25, the second 30-19, and the third 30-22. Freshman setter Matt Weingarten (East Moriches, NY) tallied twenty-four assists, and four blocks while junior outside hitter Jeff Lee (Clifton Park, NY) had seven kills and seven digs. Senior opposite Ryan Bullard (Smithtown, NY) recorded six kills, three digs, and two blocks in the win.

The Hawks defense was paced by sophomore libero Pedro Medina (Brentwood, NY) and senior outside hitter Jamie Kellogg (Scio, NY) who recorded eight and nine digs, respectively. Junior middle blocker Josh Spiro (Island Park, NY) totaled eight blocks in win for SUNY New Paltz.

Hunter College (1-1) was led by junior Lukas Lyszak (Tychy, Polan) who totaled 12 kills and junior setter Jozepf Dubroja (Glendale, NY) who recorded 49 assists in the loss.

The SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team will return to action Thursday, January 26, at 7:30 pm, when they travel to Baruch College.
