SUNY New Paltz Women’s Basketball Struggles Against Bears
POTSDAM, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team took a 65-49 defeat at the hands of conference rival, Potsdam, this afternoon. Suffering their third straight loss, the Hawks fell to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Despite shooting 5-for-28 from the field in the first half, SUNY New Paltz (1-4, 0-2) found themselves down only four at halftime, 26-22. Senior center Alexzandria Cruse (Poughkeepsie, NY) gathered 12 rebounds, recorded two blocks and put eight points on the board in only 15 minutes of work. Freshman guard Jasmine Scheffel (Oakland, MD) provided eight points and six boards, while junior guard Jenny Driscoll (Staten Island, NY) came off the bench to total nine points, shooting three-of-four from behind the arch to keep the Hawks close.
Freshman Maureen Curley (Madrid, NY) ran the Potsdam (1-5, 1-1) offense efficiently with nine points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard Katie Buzzell (Rochester, NY) tallied ten points and senior forward Clare Ennis (Saratoga Springs, NY) led all scorers with 13 points. The Bears outscored the Hawks 39-27 in the second half to extend their lead and ensure the victory.
The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team will travel to Polytechnic on Tuesday, December 6, to play a 7:00 pm contest.
