SUNY New Paltz Field Hockey Places Four On All-Conference Teams
FREDONIA, NY — Yesterday, November 1, the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced the members of the 2005 SUNYAC All-Conference Teams. SUNY New Paltz had four players receive recognition; junior midfielder Kelly Proper (Red Hook, NY), sophomore defender Kaitlin Ruggiero (Carmel, NY) garnered First Team Honors, while senior midfielder Lisa Wong (Colts Neck, NJ) and junior goalkeeper Nicole Kovac (Manlius, NY) placed on the Second Team.
SUNY New Paltz finished 2005 with an overall record of 6-12, and 1-4 in conference play. Although she is a junior, Proper has completed the collegiate field hockey career. She finished the season with two goals and four assists (8 points) and her first All-Conference award. Ruggiero accumulated five goals and two assists (12 points) in 2005, she was a member of the 2004 SUNYAC Second Team All-Conference.
Wong and Kovac were also members of the 2004 SUNYAC Second Team All-Conference. Wong finished second in scoring for the Hawks this season with seven goals and six assists (20 points) and Kovac had a stellar season in 2005 and will be one of the key returning members of the SUNY New Paltz field hockey team in 2006. She finished 2005 with 145 saves, a .755 save percentage, and a 2.81 goals against average in 1171:08 minutes played.
