SUNY New Paltz Women’s Volleyball Reaches 20 Win Plateau
NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team collected their 20th win of the 2005 season with a 3-1 defeat of St. Joseph’s.
In the first game, SUNY New Paltz (20-7) jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead forcing a Golden Eagle timeout, but the Hawk’s momentum was not swayed. The Hawks maintained their pace and forced a second timeout with a 25-7 edge. In the end, the Hawks took the first game 30-17. St. Joseph’s (15-11) grabbed the first two points of the second game, however, the Hawks promptly turned the tide posting a 16-9 lead and forcing another Golden Eagle timeout. The Hawks won the second game 30-14. SUNY New Paltz and St. Joseph’s played neck and neck for a majority of the third game. The Golden Eagles eventually broke the tie and seized a 30-26 win. In the fourth game, SUNY New Paltz battled St. Joseph’s and managed a narrow 15-13 lead before pulling away for the 30-16 victory.
Sophomore setter Katie Becofsky (Altamont, NY) piloted the Hawk’s offense with 27 assists and also added ten digs in the defensive effort. Senior middle hitter Christina Mazurowski (Tonawanda, NY) led the Hawks with nine kills and three blocks. Freshman outside hitter Amanda Brown (South Glens Falls, NY) recorded eight kills and ten digs. Senior outside hitter Andrea Kaiser (Blue Point, NY) and sophomore middle hitter Kim Braga (Long Beach, NY) each registered seven kills. Kaiser added 13 digs and Braga posted five blocks on defense.
The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team will host their final regular season home game of 2005 on Wednesday, October 26 against New Jersey City University, at 7:00 pm.
