SUNY New Paltz Women’s Volleyball Advances at NYSWCAA
ITHACA, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team opened up the 2005 New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) Tournament with a 3-0 sweep of Potsdam and a 3-0 sweep of RIT.
SUNY New Paltz (26-8) defeated Potsdam (21-14) in three games; 30-27, 30-17, 30-25, for the 3-0 sweep. Sophomore setter Katie Becofsky (Altamont, NY) facilitated the Hawk’s offense with 37 assists. Senior middle hitter Christina Mazurowski (Tonawanda, NY) led SUNY New Paltz with 14 kills and 4 blocks. Junior outside hitter Franchesca Rodriguez (Schenectady, NY) collected nine kills and 15 digs. Senior libero Christina Butcher (North Salem, NY) provided a 30-dig defensive effort for the Hawks.
In the later game this evening, the Hawks defeated RIT in three games; 30-28, 30-17, 30-19, for their second sweep of the day. Becofsky once again lead the offense for SUNY New Paltz with 34 assists and 17 digs. Senior outside hitter Andrea Kaiser (Blue Point, NY)tallied 12 kills and 19 digs, while sophomore middle hitter Kim Braga (Long Beach, NY)totaled ten kills and three blocks in the affair.
The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team will advance to the semifinals tomorrow where they will face the winner of the Ithaca College/University of Rochester game.
