SUNY New Paltz Women’s Soccer Picks Up Conference Win at SUNY IT
UTICA, NY — This afternoon the SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team won their fourth conference game of 2005 with a 7-2 defeat of the SUNY Institute of Technology.
Freshman midfielder Jennifer Anselmi (North Rockland, NY) scored her first of three goals on a penalty kick, awarded at 17:05. SUNY New Paltz (9-5-1, 4-5) took a 2-0 lead into halftime, sophomore forward Jaime McBain (Troy, NY) scored, her fourth goal in three games, off a pass from junior forward Kerri Kelty (Valley Stream, NY).
In the second half, the Hawks further distanced themselves from the SUNY IT (1-8, 2-12) recording three goals in the first five minutes. Anselmi registered the first two and freshman forward Kate Addiss (Amherst, NY) added the third to give the Hawks a 5-0 lead with a little more than forty minutes to play.
The Wildcats finally got on the board in the 66th minute; freshman Mahgan Spagnola (Amsterdam, NY) broke the shutout on a Wildcat corner kick. Sophomore forward Courtney Schmaeling (Levittown, NY) would help the Hawks score twice more, netting her first goal of the year at 71:01 and then assisting junior forward Alison Fliegel (New Hyde Park, NY) at 76:19. The Wildcats added a late goal, but freshman goalkeeper Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville, NY) ended any threat of a rally, she totaled three saves on the afternoon and picked up her ninth win.
The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team will host Oneonta in their conference finale on Wednesday, October 19 at 3:00 pm.
