SUNY New Paltz Women’s Soccer Drops Conference Finale
NEW PALTZ, NY — This afternoon the SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team fell to 4-6 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) with a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Oneonta.
Currently seeded atop the SUNYAC standings, Oneonta (15-1-1, 10-0) posted a 3-0 lead heading into halftime. Junior forward Corinne Tisei (New Hyde Park, NY) got the Red Dragon offense rolling. At 35:39, Tisei struck a loose corner kick to the back of the goal for the 1-0 lead. A minute later, Tisei lobbed a pass from the left side to freshman forward Sarah Begley (North Chili, NY) who headed the ball into net, pushing the Red Dragon Lead to two. Oneonta would add the third goal just before halftime off the foot of senior defender Sarah Tauber (Valley Stream, NY).
The Red Dragons controlled most of the play and registered their fourth goal of the afternoon 15 minutes into the second half. Senior forward Tricia Jaeger (Baldwin, NY) scored at 59:57 to put Oneonta up 4-0. Sophomore forward Courtney Schmaeling (Levittown, NY) recorded the Hawks only shot of the afternoon with 2:18 remaining in the contest.
Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville, NY) totaled eight saves in the loss for SUNY New Paltz (9-6-1, 4-6). Senior goalkeeper Laura Marcone (Mechanicville, NY) picked up the shutout for Oneonta.
The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team will play their next game on Friday, October 21, against Russell Sage, scheduled for a1:00 pm start.
