SUNY New Paltz Men’s Soccer Team Falls Short In Double Overtime

GENESEO, NY — The SUNY New Paltz Men’s Soccer Team lost this afternoon to conference rival Geneseo in overtime by a score of 2-1. The Hawks drop to 4-8 over all and 1-5 in the SUNYAC, while Geneseo advances to 7-1-2 overall and 5-2 in the SUNYAC.

At the end of regualtion, both teams were even with one goal apiece. Though the Hawks out shot the Knights 15 to 11, they could not pull away victorious. The game winning goal came when the Knights senior Taylor Smith (Penfield, NY) headed a corner kick from Jim Felluca (Rochester, NY) at 107:08 to give the Knights a 2-1 win over SUNY New Paltz in double overtime.

Geneseo got off to an agressive start when senior Dan Art (New Hyde Park, NY) laced a goal eight minutes into the first half. The Hawks offense attacked evening the score in the first half at 27:43 when Jason Irish (Newburgh, NY) netted a goal off a pass from Daniel Cocciardi (Stormville, NY). The Hawks and Knights remained tie through the remainder of the first half and the duration of the second.

Junior goalkeeper Masonori Hotta (Hyogo, Japan) recorded seven saves in route to a stellar defensive performance in goal for the Hawks. Sophomore Tim Spayed (Farmington, NY) made five saves to gain the win in goal for the Knights.

The Hawks return to action on Friday October 7, when they will host conference rival Cortland at 4:00pm.
