SUNY New Paltz Field Hockey Team Battles Red Hawks in 3-1 Loss
KINGSTON, NY — The SUNY New Paltz (4-10, 1-4) field hockey team fell to Montclair State University this evening by a score of 3-1. The Montclair State Red Hawks (10-1) are currently ranked number 11 in the latest 2005 STX/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll.
The Red Hawks scored first at 21:04 when sophomore forward Jennifer Tanis (Emmaus, PA) got Montclair State on the board scoring on a pass from Jen Soss (Hamilton, NJ). Not long after, sophomore forward Karli Troisi (Pompton Plains, NJ) laced a goal off a pass from Kristen Swartz (Hatboro, PA). The Hawks managed to stop the Red Hawks offensive attacks in the first half. Junior goalkeeper Nicole Kovac (Manlius, NY) stopped 6 first half shots, keeping the game within reach for the Hawks. The Red Hawk’s offense dominated the first half tallying 10 shots to the Hawks 1.
The Red Hawks would strike when sophomore forward Jennifer Tanis scored on a break away giving Montclair State a three goal cushion. In the second half of the game, the Hawks stepped up their play offensively led by senior forward Shannon Stokes (Accord, NY) who scored of a pass from sophomore midfielder Jacqueline Sisco (Wappingers Falls, NY) at 6:40 to give the Hawks their first goal of the game.
Once again leading the defensive efforts for the Hawks was junior goalkeeper Nicole Kovac (Manlius, NY) who registered 11 saves in the loss. Senior goalkeeper Robin Apicelli (Oceanport, NJ) collected one save for the Red Hawks.
The SUNY New Paltz Field Hockey team returns to action on Saturday October 22, when they will host Wells College at 11:00 am at Dietz Stadium.
