SUNY New Paltz Cross Country Teams Compete at Geneseo
GENESEO, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s and women’s cross-country teams competed at the 25th Annual Geneseo Invitational today. The men’s team took a sixtennth place finish while the women finished eleventh.
The Hawks were paced by freshman Sean Brown (Verplanek, NY) who finished 139th with a time of 31:11. Senior George Correa (Central Islip, NY) finished 143rd with a strong performance at 31:38. Also finishing in the top five finishers for the Hawks were: Junior Mike Nelson (Dix Hills, NY)155, 32:14, and freshman Mark Kelly-Safir (Poland, ME) 163rd, 32:48, Josh Tucker 165th, 32:56.
SUNY New Paltz men’s cross-country team finished sixteenth overall with 494 points. Led by a team of strong runners, Geneseo won the meet with 56 points. Otterbein College Mike Sawicki finished first with a time of 25:16. Otterbein College was a close second with 63 points andUniversity of Rochester was a distant third with 80 points.
Senior Kate Choromanski (Shelton, CT) led the women’s team to a 11th place finish. Choromanski finished with a time of 20:56 and a 68th place finish.Junior Alida Almelo (Groton, NY) finished 74th with a time of 21:09. Freshman Stephanie Albinski (Commack, NY) crossed the finish line in 21:15 and came in 75th. With a time of 21:40, junior Winter Eyers (Selkirk, NY) finshed the race 92nd.
Rounding out the top five for the Hawks was senior Janet Walsh (Baldwinsville, NY) who was 93rd with a time of 21:41. The Hawks finished the meet with 292 points. Geneseo finished first with 25 points. Megan Brown (unattached) won the race with a time of 16:40.
On Saturday October 8, the Hawks will travel to Hamilton College for the Hamilton Invitational.
