Hawks Land Two on Union Invitational All-Tournament Team
SCHENECTADY, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team finished the weekend at the Union Invitational 3-1. Out of five teams the Hawks completed the tournament in second place.
Senior middle hitter Christina Mazurowski (Tonawanda, NY) and senior outside hitter Andrea Kaiser (Blue Point, NY) were named to the Union Invitational All-Tournament Team for their efforts. Mazurowski finished the tournament with 34 kills, a .341 hitting percentage, three service aces, 16 digs and 19 blocks over four matches. Kaiser totaled 45 kills, a .313 hitting percentage, three service aces, 54 digs and three blocks.
The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team claimed a second place finish behind conference rival Fredonia. The Hawks lost to Fredonia in the first game 3-0. The Blue Devils swept in three games 30-27, 30-26, 30-23. In the following match the Hawks came from behind to finish the first day of the invitational on a high note with a 3-2 victory over Skidmore. Mazurowski recorded a 13-kill, 13-block performance to help the Hawks defeat the Thoroughbreds 18-30, 19-30, 30-23, 30-28, 15-13.
On the second day of the tournament the Hawks were victorious in both of their scheduled matches. In the 12:00 pm match the Hawks defeated St. Lawrence 3-0, winning 30-11, 30-15, 30-25. In the final match against invitational host, Union College, the Hawks came out on top 3-1. Kaiser led the team with an impressive 22-kill, 23-dig evening while tallying a .488 hitting percentage.
The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team will host New York University (NYU) on Wednesday, October 12 at 7:00 pm. NYU is currently ranked #1 in New York State for Division III, according to the New York State Women’s Colligate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) and #6 nationally, according to The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 Poll.
